CREATIVE PROBLEM SOLVING

                 CREATIVE  PROBLEM  SOLVING

THE PROBLEM ?

In the figure above it is difficult to even find out what is the actual problem.

So whenever you face any complex situation first find out what is the real problem and then go to the core of problem. Here in this case we have to remove the ring from the structure given above. It was fun when solving the problem and this problem actually was a learning of some crucial factors in Decision Making.

I will take you through some of the important management concepts taught to us by means of this activity. At first instance the task seemed impossible. The ring looked inseparable from the toy.

MANAGEMENT  CONCEPTS.

ROOT CAUSE ANALYSIS

This analysis is done to find out why this problem actually exists ???
Our main aspect behind it is that problems are best solved by attempting to cover, correct or eliminate root causes, as opposed to merely going for  immediately obvious symptoms. By directing corrective measures at root causes, it is more probable that problem recurrence will be prevented.

1. Define the problem.
2.Gather data and evidence supporting the problem.
3. Ask "why" and identify the causes directly associated with each step in the sequence towards the defined problem.
4. Ask "What were the factors that directly resulted in the effect ?"

Tendency to pick Shortcuts.

When I first saw the problem I wanted to finish it as early as possible to go for the quick solution , it is human nature to always find the shortcuts for the assigned task.
In the fast changing world there is always the possibility people going for the shortcuts to compete with the other organizations but it is not always the right way to deal with the problems.
Never go for quick solution it always bring you to the failure in long run as shortcuts never eliminate the root cause of the problem.

BOUNDED RATIONALITY CONCEPT.

It is always possible when you are dealing with such complex problems then it might be possible you may not have the optimum resources or information to deal with such kind of situations.

WORKING WITH CONSTRAINTS.

The puzzle was designed in such a way that only at one particular position , we were able to separate the ring from the toy (the given task). No Hit and trial method worked.
Looking at the problem from different angles: Not every problem can be solved by predefined logical procedures. The task at hand was peculiar and one of its kind. The Technical,Conceptual and human skills were at work.

INNOVATIVE AND VISIONARY APPROACH.

"There's a way to do it better—find it." - Thomas Edison.

When you are bounded with resources then you need to have a vision to see through the obvious consequences. You always look for the best optimum solution which is highly productive with the given options available. Use the technology as much as possible and always keep in mind that what is desirable.

The Solution for the puzzle should be the one which would not destroy the toy and would entice others to follow. By applying the above management concepts ( we don't know that we are applying management concepts that but this is how you learn the management through Dr. Mandi's class ) we finally solved the problem.

"To raise new questions, new possibilities, to regard old problems from a new angle, requires creative imagination and marks real advance in science."

 by Albert Einstein.
