Lecture-03

PYGMALION EFFECT
The class started with the discussion over Pygmalion effect. The idea behind it is that if One want to get something and puts his/her best efforts (as we have already discussed in previous lecture that One has infinite potential of doing anything ) then One can get his/her desired goal.

THEORY OF X & Y MANAGERS

Dr. Mandi clearly explaind the concept of  manager X and manager Y and their relationship with his/her employees.
There are 4 situations are possible for this theory.

SITUATION-01
The employees are X and the manager is X too this means that employees are lazy and Manager thinks that his/her employees are lazy and the same time Manager is lazy. To conclude with these points it is clear that there is no scope for growth for anyone and Manger is responsible for the failure as he/she is not able to motivate his/her employees to work upto their potential.

SITUATION-02
In this situation employees are Y and their manager is Y it means employees are not lazy but the Manager thinks that employees are lazy so this is the most dangerous situation because the Manager is solely responsible for the failure as the hardworking and self-motivated employees can also be turned into waste just because of the poor judgement of the Manager.

SITUATION-03
In this situation employees are X and the Manager is Y that means the employees are lazy but the Manager thinks that employees are not lazy. The Manager has faith on his/her team and motivate them to work upto their potential to ensure that desired goal can be attained. It is his/her responsibility to change the situation 3 into situation 4.

SITUATION-04
In this situation employees are Y and the Manager is also Y that means both are not lazy so it easiest situation and the desired goals can easily be attained.

I personally had the example of Situation-03.
During my Junior school days I was the captain of my junior school cricket team and we had cricket match against our senior team(one of the best team in the whole district). So most of my team mates were saying that we are nothing against them and they can easily defeat us. Then i said it doesn't matter we win or loose but its our responsibility to play to our potential and if we would be able to give our best then the we surely come out as a winner and rest was the history we defeated our senior team with a great margin. So it was our belief and hard work which really paid us in the last.

Lecture-01 & 02

INTRODUCTION

Here in NITIE classes started on 18th of june 2012 , all the classes I attended till wednesday have nothing much different than any other class I attended at my school or college level but On Thursday a Professor made his presence felt with his enthusiastic and practical approach of teaching. His knowledge and experience was coming out in form of sentences. Everything he was saying had logic and practical in nature, He was none other than Father of MANDI and HUMARA DHANDA The Mr. T Prasad or say Dr. NITIE Prasad  or say Dr. Mandi.

SELLING TO LEARN

The class started with the approach of practical learning and make yourself self-dependent for this he quoted a great line "AAJ KI ROTI AAJ HI KAMANA" what I gathered from this statement was that I am spending  100 rupees on food and other expenses so I have to earn that amount of money by myself. Dr. Mandi shown us how money can be made from simple toys which not only help you to learn but also help the little children to learn. I would like to coat it as "Doing GOOD by Doing WELL"
Either it is the Formula of (a+b)^3 derived through the 3-dimensional structure made of plastic pipes or A simple game of Tic-tac which can be converted into numerous puzzles will help the little children to understand the science practically and these things can be sold in the market for the significant amount of money.

PINK FLOYD- ANOTHER BRICK IN THE WALL

Dr. Mandi got the audio visual of this song to show in this class , I never heard this song before but special thanks to Dr. Mandi to get me aware of this classic song. The song was the satire on the traditional education system to show how students were molded into anything whatever there teacher wanted irrespective of the student's desire just like the bricks in the wall. The lesson I learnt from this was that it should be only One decision what one's want to be in his life, None should interfere in this decision.

EXCELLENCE= EFFICIENCY * EFFECTIVENESS

Excellence can be achieved only when you know the subtlities of both efficiency and effectiveness. Efficiency and Effectiveness are the essential components to get managerial excellence. One should has proper goal set to achieve excellence in one's life. For this purpose Dr. Mandi took up an activity so everyone can understand the fact practically by the help of real life example.

The activity "TOWER BUILDING " was presented to the class in which first bidding was done and then the student who came out as winner had to build the tower by putting one cube over another cube with the help of left hand only. Students were asked to predict how many cubes he would be able to place one over another until the tower falls. Most of the students predicted it to be between 15-25 and that student himself predicted for 10.

When tower fell he was able to put 17 cubes one over another.
The thing we learnt from this particular activity was that one should set his goal higher than the attainable goal so one can put extra efforts to achieve it and always better his performance and it will automatically raises the hunger for self improvement.

Then next step was added to it was that this activity would be done by blinded folded that one's eyes would be closed during the putting of cubes over one another and then Dr. Mandi asked the students to predict about how many cubes he would be able to put over one another. Most of the students lowered their value than the previous one (around 95%) and some went their previous prediction and only 1 student increased his value than the previous one.

Now what Dr. Mandi helped to learn from this
i) One should always put his target higher than previous one because no one wants to lower their targets as you always have to climb higher.
ii)This will enhance your performance as one always has chance to do better.
iii) One's potential is infinite there are no boundaries which can't be over passed if you are trying harder.
